Poetic Plaques: A public artwork for 2012
An exciting public artwork is now in progress to commemorate The Hundred.
Alistair Grant (artist, writer, and historian) will write 100 poetic biographies, one for each historic figure in The Hundred. These verses will be photo-chemically etched onto sheets of mirror steel to create ‘poetic plaques’. His poems will explore both the arc of a figure’s life, and their specific connection to Elmbridge.
Here is a prototype plaque for the writer R C Sherriff, currently on display at Elmbridge Museum:

Installation
In summer 2012 these poetic plaques will be installed across the Borough, placed in the very sites associated with the historic figures. Their mirrored surface will reflect the surrounding landscape, as well as the reader themselves as they ‘reflect’ on past lives.
The public will be able to explore the people and places of Elmbridge past via a heritage trail and downloadable audio-guide.
Sponsorship
Individuals and companies are now invited to sponsor these poetic plaques.
Sponsorship details will be etched onto the plaque stands, and included on the heritage trail and audio-guide.
